“What Is the Reason for It?” is a music video that, through surreal vignettes and a “spiky” dancer, will reveal the irrational sides of love.
Treatment
Working hands-on with Dustin Yellin and David Byrne to make this music video was really unique. Plus, with the help of a few close friends, we made “What Is The Reason For It?” a music video AI animation based on the drawings of David Byrne. The metaphorical vignettes are connected through a “Spiky” character, who represents how we feel when love hits us.

What to look for:
We deconstructed David Byrne’s drawings by breaking down the components of his style: ballpoint lines, ink, sketch marks, erasures, and irregular strokes. These elements were used to train a ML model capable of extending his style into new themes.
In parallel, we worked with image-to-video to bring the drawing into animation.

We printed every single frame, then scanned it and digitized it back.
